General character
Harlequin sheep are known for easy handling and docile dispositions. They are naturally polled and should stand under 24 inches at the shoulder.
Color and wool
Harlequins can show varied black-and-white spotting as lambs, maturing through cocoa brown, white, gray, and black. The standard describes medium wool, 25 to 35 microns, with a 3 to 6 inch yearly staple.
Soundness matters
The standard addresses head, teeth, body, feet, legs, and characteristics not accepted in the breed, including horns attached to the skull.
